Coaching Information and Links

Being a manager or coach requires time, patience, and basic knowledge of the game of baseball.  You will work with your Team Mom to communicate with the parents/guardians of your players to inform them of any schedule changes, rainouts, and Little League events and activities.

Coconut Creek fielded 73teams last season that's 219 coaching positions. The League needs knowledgeable and responsible individuals to pass their love of game on to the next generation of ballplayers. Don't worry if you were a Little Leaguer the last time you picked up a ball. The league provides prospective coaches with plenty of help through coaching clinics, and support from a divisional representative on the Board of Directors.

As a manager or coach, you have more interaction with young people than anyone else in Little League.  Therefore, it is important that you understand the goals and virtues of the Little League program in order to effectively communicate them to your players.  To gain a better understanding of what those goals and virtues are you will be required to attend meetings, instructional sessions, and seminars. Background checks are required for all League volunteers The costs of these programs will be paid by the League.

2008 Season  LL Pitch Count Rules
For all of Little League Baseball’s history, and for the history of amateur youth baseball in general, pitching regulations have used innings pitched to determine pitcher eligibility. Starting with the 2007 season, pitchers in all divisions of Little League, from age 7 to 18, will have specific limits for each game, based on their age. The number of pitches delivered in a game will determine the amount of rest the player must have before pitching again.

Little League Pitch Count Quick Reference Guide

League Age Pitches per day
13-16 YO 95
11-12 YO 85
9-10 YO 75
Under 8 YO 50  New in 2008

Exception: If pitcher reaches his limit while facing a batter, he can pitch until that batter is out or reaches base
Note 1: Intentional Walks.  In 2008 Pitchers will  pitch intentional walks.
Note 2: Pitchers/Catchers.  In 2008 a Pitchers removed from the game cannot play the position of catcher.
Pitch Count Days of rest
61 pitches per day or more 3 calendar days and 1 game Modified for 2008
41-60 pitches per day 2 calendar days and 1 game Modified for 2008
21-40 pitches per day 1 calendar day
1-20 pitches per day 0 calendar days

Scorekeepers / pitch counters can keep pitch count for both teams during games, as a double check.
Home Team scorekeeper / pitch counter must provide the current pitch count for any pitcher when requested by umpires or managers.
Scorekeeper / pitch counter informs the umpire when a pitcher has delivered his maximum pitches.  Umpire notifies Mgr to take player out of the game.
Managers are responsible for taking pitchers out of the game when pitch count limit is reached, even if scorekeeper neglects to announce it.

The use of the pitch count regulation negates the concept of "calendar week' with regard to pitching eligibility.

To remind everyone of the ideals of Little League Baseball, Coconut Creek Little League requests that the Little League Pledge be recited by all players participating in a game in which scores are kept.

Coach Pitch and T-ball teams are encouraged to recite the Pledge before their games as well.

Coaching Resources
There are lot of Baseball instructional Sites out there but we found these to be two of the best.
This is outstanding site for Coaching and Skill development in the Game of Baseball. Includes Tips and Drills for every position including animated Diagrams and interactive clinics.

Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) provides live, research-based training workshops and practical tools for coaches, parents and leaders who operate youth sports programs to get them on the same page about what it means to Honor the Game. Positive Coaching Alliance
