The Umpire is an important part of Little League Baseball, aside from calling ball or strike, safe or out, umpires are responsible for teaching players good sportsmanship and the rules of the game.  Umpires are also called upon to interpret rules and help settle minor disputes that may occur during games.

As a non-profit organization the Coconut Creek Little League relies on volunteer Umpires for all of their games.    We have a core of dedicated Umpires who have graciously given of their time but we are still woefully understaffed. Umpire Chief Bobby Hernandez is seeking Volunteer umpires of all ranges of experience, or even no experience at all.   You can progress at your own comfort level and start off slow as you receive on-the-job training. All equipment is provided and all we ask of you is your time.

Most Little League games have one home plate umpire and a minimum of one field umpire.   Before becoming a home plate umpire you may be required to participate in training sessions and seminars.

While home plate umpires are scheduled well in advance, field umpires are sometimes determined minutes before the game begins.   As you arrive at your child's game, your coach or the home plate umpire may ask you to be the field umpire. When you agree, your main responsibilities are to call plays on the bases, determine if balls are fair or foul, and assist the home plate umpire with other calls.
 

ALL MANAGERS AND COACHES PLEASE ATTEND.
Umpire field work including positioning and stance, umpire rotation, making calls, rules pertaining to field of play and other topics.  Every manager and coach will be asked to help with Umpire duty in 2011 so get your training now. Managers will be given their team equipment bags after the clinic.  Teens wishing to umpire must attend
