Background Checks-V.E.C.H.S.

Recognizing the need to protect or greatest assets and treasure- our children, The City of Coconut Creek and Little League Baseball will require Background checks for all League Managers, Coaches, Team Moms, Board of Directors members and any other persons, volunteers or hired workers, who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with, players or teams.

This Policy will take effect beginning with the 2003 Season. All persons interested in becoming volunteers for the 2003 season and beyond must consent to a national background check using the Volunteer & Employee Criminal History System (V.E.C.H.S.) Applicants must submit a signed statement and consent form along with their fingerprints. This data will be submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), for the purpose of accessing and reviewing Florida and National criminal history records that pertain to the applicant.

If you have previously submitted to VECHS certification within the previous two years you are not required to complete one at this time. You must provide written documentation of certification. If you have completed VECHS certification for another Coconut Creek Sports League the city will provide us with a list of certified volunteers.

The VECHS program will be administered during registration. A fingerprinting station and VECHS forms will be available at the Volunteer booth. There is currently no Fee associated with VECHS certification. Until a criminal history background check is complete volunteer applicants will be denied unsupervised access to league players.

The Applicant has the right to request a copy of the criminal history background report, if any that is received on them. The applicant is entitled to challenge the accuracy and completeness of any information contained in such a report and may obtain prompt validity of that challenge before any final decision is made about their status as volunteer.

Little League Baseball recognizes the importance of the volunteer and the tremendous amount of hours the contribute to the organization. This is not meant to be a burden or inconvenience, Little League Baseball and the City of Coconut Creek recognize the responsibility we have to the youth of our community and consider this a small sacrifice to safeguard our children.

Coconut Creek Little League Baseball does not limit participation in its activities
on the basis of disability, race, color, creed, national origin,
gender, sexual preference or religious preference.
